The Ashe County Lady Huskies picked up their seventh win as they defeated the Watauga Lady Pioneers 60-51.

With the victory, their record improved to 7-0, the best start in the 11-year history of the school.

Watauga took an early 7-5 lead, but that would be the only lead the Lady Pioneers saw all evening long. Chandler Christensen scored 4 points, Jessica Walker, Mariah McVey, and Mallory Clay each scored 2 points, pacing Ashe to a 13-9 lead at the end of 1.

The Lady Huskies began the second quarter with an 8-2 run with a bucket from Caitlin Elliott, 4 more points from Clay, and a layup from Walker. Clay scored 9 points in the quarter alone, giving Ashe a 31-20 lead at the half.

Ashe maintained their lead through the entire second half, led by good execution on offense and tough defense. Christensen scored 8 points in the third quarter and Kara Church hit 2 free throws, as the team did for most of the night.

Clay was a perfect 11-11 at the charity stripe, followed by Church hitting all 4 of her free throw attempts, and McVey missing only 1 of her 6 attempts at the line. The Lady Huskies hit 7 free throws in overtime to seal the victory.

Clay had another great all around game, scoring 23 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and collecting 3 steals on the night. Christensen finished with 10 points, and Elliott ended up with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
