It was all about defense for the Lady Huskies in their 46-26 victory over the Starmount Lady Rams on Saturday.

Although the Lady Huskies struggled to hit some shots, the team still scored plenty of points to get the win with how well the team defended and rebounded

Ashe outscored the Lady Rams 13-5 in the first quarter behind 4 points from Caitlin Elliott, and baskets from Chandler Christensen, Mallary Clay, and MacKinsey Johnson. Mariah McVey, Jessica Walker, and Lizzie Hanes also hit a free throw each in the first.

The Lady Huskies continued to amp up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, holding the Rams to 7 points. McVey scored 7 points, Clay chipped in with 3 more, and Christensen hit a layup to push the Ashe lead to 25-12 at the half.

Following the halftime break, the Lady Huskies kept building the lead. Hanes scored 6 straight points for Ashe, and Elliott scored 4 more giving the Lady Huskies a 35-19 lead going to the fourth.

The final quarter was once again all Ashe as Clay added 7 more points, McVey hit two free throws, and Walker put in another basket to give the Lady Huskies a 20-point victory.

Up next for the Lady Huskies, East Wilkes heads to town, and it is shaping up as a battle between first and second place teams in the Mountain Valley Conference. Earlier in the season, Ashe rolled over East Wilkes by 45 points. Ashe will be hoping to keep their perfect conference record intact.
