The Lady Huskies did something no team in any sport in school history had every done, finishing the season with a perfect 16-0 conference record.

Ashe defeated the North Wilkes Lady Vikings 64-29 to cap off an amazing regular season. Overall, the Lady Huskies are 20-1 and will be hoping to pile up more wins in the conference tournament and in the state playoffs.

This night was also a special one for three seniors honored following the game. Caitlin Elliott, Jessica Walker, and Cara Church were all recognized in the final regular season home game.

Ashe started off slow in the first quarter trailing the Lady Vikings before finding the offense and turning up the defensive pressure, especially in the second half.

Mallary Clay led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Elliott with 10 and Lizzie Hanes with 9. Mariah McVey chipped in 7 points, and both Walker and Karanda Weaver put in 6 points for the Lady Huskies.

North Wilkes was led by forward Carly Noble, who scored 16 of the team’s 29 points. Ashley Wyatt added 9 points for the Lady Vikings in the loss.

The team will now shift their focus to defend its Mountain Valley Conference tournament championship.

The title defense will begin Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as the Lady Huskies host the West Wilkes Lady Blackhawks. In the regular season matchups between the teams, Ashe outscored West Wilkes 128-39.
