There were no injuries reported in a collision that occurred Friday morning on Highway 194 in Lansing between a Toyota sedan and a Dodge pick-up truck.
According to N.C Highway Patrolman Vic Gammons, 68-year-old Howard Roark was travelling north on Highway 194 into Lansing and was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Country House restaurant when he collided with a 1993 Toyota Corolla, which was driven by 43-year-old Mikeal Shepherd who was travelling south when the cars collided.
Shepherd, who was standing at the crash site at the time, was noticeably shaken as a result of the accident. He said he did not initially see the truck turning into the parking lot.
“The next thing I know was that the airbag was out,” Shepherd said.
The end result of the wreck left the truck on its side in the restaurant’s parking lot and the Corolla was left sitting in the middle of the highway with noticeable damage to the car’s front end. Debris from the accident, including bits and pieces of a plastic bumper, fuses, and engine fluids were scattered across the highway. Both vehicles were totaled with damages to the Corolla estimated to be at $3,000 and $7,000 for the truck. Roark was charged with failing to yield to the right of way and Shepherd was cited for exceeding the posted speed limit.
The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue responded to the scene.
