Kaleigh Kemp is one of 15 finalists in her age group for the 2010 Triad Idol Final Event. She will be competing at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 13 at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro. At the end of that event, CTG will crown the three 2010 Triad Idols and recognize the first and second runners-up as well as the audience favorite in each age group.

Kaleigh is a seventh grader at Ashe County Middle School and she will be singing ‘Summertime’ from Porgy and Bess. “Thanks goes to Tonya Halsey for helping me get this far in vocals,” Kaleigh said.

The four on-stage judges will be evaluating each finalist on singing ability, vocal style and stage presence. In addition to the on-stage judges, whose combined critiques will account for 80 percent of each contestant’s score, the audience will count as the ‘fifth judge’ and will account for 20 percent of the scores.

Audience members may show their support for individual finalists by casting votes ($1 per vote) during the intermission following a contestant’s performance.

The Triad Idol in each age group will receive a prize package including $1,000 cash, the opportunity to perform as the opening act at an upcoming CTG production, paid performance contracts with Castle McCulloch’s Christmas Castle, an opportunity to take the stage at Greensboro’s Fun Fourth celebration on July 3, a professional headshot photograph from Mike Micciche Photography, and other prizes.

You can come and cheer Kaleigh on at the performance on Sunday. Tickets are $10, but you can see Kaleigh to get a discount card of $5 (plus a $1.50 Carolina Theatre Restoration Fee).
