A town water crew worked along Backstreet, Long Street and Buck Mountain Road turning off service in preparation for the repair.
They suspect the age of the line led to the break. They planned to work on the repair Sunday morning but said they would not know the extent of the damage or length of the outage until they dug down to the damage.
