The Lady Huskies won two of its three matches last week against three Mountain Valley Conference opponents.
Ashe lost its first match of the week 8-1 against one of the top conference teams at Elkin.
The Huskies answered back with a hard fought win against Starmount by a final of 6-3 and a blowout win over West Wilkes, sweeping the Lady Blackhawks 9-0.
Against Starmount, the Huskies got victories from Lizzie Hanes and Courtney Bowers in both singles and doubles, as well as Haley Maloney, Amanda Tugman, and Anna Wooten
With the success last week, the Lady Huskies tennis team pushed its record to 5-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Volleyball
North Wilkes came to town Tuesday for the Lady Huskies’ fourth MVAC match of the year. Ashe swept the Lady Vikings in both JV and varsity to put another victory in the win column. The JV team won its two games 25-11 and 25-14 to get them another game closer to a .500 record, currently sitting at 3-4 overall.
In varsity play, the ladies downed North Wilkes 25-17, 25-10, and 25-22. Olivia Thore was a perfect 15 for 15 serving, as was Mariah McVey as she put all eight of her serves in play, including an ace. Allison Powers and Karanda Weaver both went 7 for 8 serving. Senior Mallary Clay led the team in kills with five and blocks with three. Callie Barker also added three kills and a block while Chandler Christensen chipped in with two blocks and two kills. With the victory, the Lady Huskies improved its record to 5-2 overall, and 2-2 in conference action.
