On Aug. 1 the Ashe County Public Library and Ashe County Arts Council, sponsors of On the Same Page Literary Festival, announced ‘Big Fish’ as the community read.
Various events helped promote reading of the book, including a scavenger hunt, which involved finding out the answers to several questions throughout the book. Everyone who filled out the form with all correct answers got to compete in a drawing.
Names were drawn last week, and they are: 1st place, fly fishing lessons from Rivergirl Fishing Co., Susan Briggs; 2nd place, a handmade fish necklace, Molly Gambill; 3rd place, a gift certificate from Frasers Restaurant, Becky Burgess. Gift certificates for Friends of the Library book sale were won by Linda Autry, Nancy Bowers, Virginia Jones and Lynda McDaniel.
On Sept. 17, ‘Big Fish’ author Daniel Wallace will read from one of his books and sign copies at Ashe County Public Library at 9 a.m. Wallace will also participate in the festival’s concluding event, the On the Same Plate luncheon, on Sept. 18 at noon at West Jefferson Methodist Church Hensley Hall. Reservations are required for this event. Call 846-ARTS for more information.
