Varsity Soccer

The Ashe County Huskies picked up its second win of the season Tuesday night at North Wilkes. Ashe defeated the Vikings 3-1. On Monday, the Huskies lost a heartbreaker to Watauga 1-0. The defense was outstanding in that matchup, but the offense could not find the next against an equally tough Pioneer defense. Ashe has won two of its last three matches, with the other win coming in a 7-0 blowout victory over the West Wilkes Blackhawks.

After those three games, the team’s record stands at 2-6 overall, and 2-2 in conference play.

Next week, the Huskies host Wilkes Central on Tuesday, September 21 and follow that up with another home game with Forbush on Thursday.

Volleyball

The last two games have been tough ones for the varsity volleyball squad. The Lady Huskies were swept three games to zero by both Alleghany and Wilkes Central.

In the match with Alleghany, Ashe dropped the first game by a 25-17 score. In game two, the team battled tough but came up just a bit short, falling 25-21. Alleghany clinched the victory with a 25-16 win in game three. Against Wilkes Central, game one went down to the wire with both teams having a chance to win the first game. However, the Lady Eagles did just enough take a 26-24 win. In game two, Ashe fell 25-17 and finally in game three, Wilkes Central sealed the win with a 25-16 win.

The Lady Huskies have only one game coming up next week. Ashe will be at home hosting East Wilkes. This game will finish off the first half of the Mountain Valley Conference schedule.

Currently, the varsity volleyball team has a 5-4 record overall, and a 2-4 record in conference action.
