The filing period is currently open and closes at noon on July 7 for candidates seeking election to one seat open for the Ashe County Soil and Water Conservation District. The seat up for election is currently held by Jack Krider.
These offices are non-partisan and there is a $5 filing fee.
A second statewide Democratic primary is planned for Tuesday, June 24 as a runoff between previous top vote getters Mary Fant Donnan and John C. Brooks seeking the position of Commissioner of Labor. The winner of this primary will face Republican Incumbent Cherie Berry in November. Only voters registered as Democrat or Unaffiliated will be allowed to vote. Early voting is conducted June 5-21 at the Board of Elections office in Ashe County Courthouse. For the primary, polls will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
