Mr. Marion Barton Stewart, better known as “Bart,” of Crumpler passed away Monday night, Feb. 27, 2012, at his home. He was 88.

Mr. Stewart was born in Stanley County on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1923, to the late Marion Barton Stewart and Mary Evelyn Johnson.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Professor of Visual Communications. Bart was a member of Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Robinson.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Patsy Bard Stewart; a son, Jamie Stewart, of Statesville; two sisters, Betty Lucinda Bell of Seattle Wash., and Rosa Bell Taylor of Huntingtown, Md.; a granddaughter, McKenna Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Thom Burleson officiating.
