Ashe County continued its impressive start to the season with a sixth consecutive win, and second win of the Mountain Valley Conference season.

The Huskies scored in the second minute of action as Miguel Ramos quickly dribbled through the Blackhawk defense and fired a shot by the keeper.

Scoring chances continued to mount up for the home team Huskies. In the fifth minute, Ashe got its first corner kick of the game, but could not capitalize on the scoring attempt. Cesar Ruiz saw his first shot attempt just miss the target, sailing high over the crossbar in the 17th minute.

Ashe was rewarded with another corner opportunity in the 20th minute, but Alexis Ramos fired a shot just wide right.

The Huskies finally got that second goal of the evening with a scoring shot from senior Lucas Zeller in the 30th minute. The team finished off the first 40 minutes with a third goal, this one coming from Ramos again. His second goal landed in the back of the net at the 36-minute mark. Ashe took a 3-0 lead to the halftime break.

Once play resumed in the final 40 minutes, the Ashe offense did not let up on the pressure. Last year’s leading scorer Frank Ledezma blasted a shot by the Blackhawk keeper to make the score 4-0 in the 48th minute.

The final goal of the night came from senior Travis Stanley. Stanley booted a hard shot that bounced off the West Wilkes’ keeper and rolled into the net. The Huskies took the 5-0 lead in the 70th minute, and let the defense do the rest.

Ashe improved its record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the MVAC.

The Huskies open next week with a big home match against Starmount on Tuesday. The Rams currently sit in third place in the MVAC behind Forbush and Ashe. Ashe will also battle non-conference foe Oak Hill Academy on Wednesday.
