Mrs. Betty Darnell Severt, of Jefferson, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Margate Health & Rehab Center with her family by her side. She was 90.

Betty was born on May 20, 1922, in Wilkes County to Lundy and Alice Ayers Darnell.

She was proud to call Ashe County her home for her entire life. She loved being surrounded by family and friends, dancing and gardening.

Mrs. Severt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny Bart Severt; and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Severt is survived by two sons, Gordon Craven of Maryland; and Rex Severt and wife Patty of West Jefferson; three daughters, Rosa Lee Lyalls and husband Eddie and Peggy Foster, all of West Jefferson, and Donna Huntley and husband Greg of Morganton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Lonnie Pruitt. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Badger Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Margate Health & Rehab for all the prayers, support, care and acts of kindness shown to them and their mother.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family is meeting at the home of Rex Severt, 376 Maple Ave., West Jefferson
