After more than 26 years of service as a maintenance engineer for the Town of West Jefferson’s Public Works Department, Kelly Eugene Woods was handed his gold watch Wednesday at a luncheon at Smoky Mountain Barbecue celebrating his retirement.
“I never had a job title, I was just in there,” said Woods.
The party was well attended by Woods’ co-workers and town employees, as well as Town Manager Brantley Price and the Board of Aldermen.
Woods said public works was “a darn good place to work,” but added he would miss the people more than the job.
Eric Miller, a co-worker of 20 years and Woods’ supervisor for the past eight years, said, “He’s been a handful, but we’ll really miss him.”
