A woman was briefly trapped in her red Nissan Xterra after the vehicle overturned at 1794 Old Highway 16 near Bristol Church at approximately 2:30 this afternoon.

N.C. State Trooper Kevin Aldridge confirmed the driver was the only person in the vehicle, and she was not seriously injured. The woman was sent to Ashe Memorial Hospital to treat minor injuries.

Trooper Aldridge said he has theories about how the accident might have happened, but would need to get a statement from the driver to understand more about the accident.

The Ashe County Rescue Squad and Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident and traffic was regulated soon after they arrived.
