Mr. Thomas Harry Hendricks Sr. of Creston died on Dec. 28, 2012, at his home. He was 100.

Mr. Hendricks was born on Sept. 27, 1912, in Detroit, Mich., to Harry J. Hendricks and Viola Hendricks (nee) Shank.

Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Hazel Hendricks (nee) Kettner; and son, Thomas H. Hendricks Jr.

Mr. Hendricks served in the U.S. Army, under General Patton during the invasion of Europe at Omaha Beach in Normandy during World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Hendricks worked as a machinist for 40 years in support of the Detroit auto industry. Before his move to North Carolina in 2010, he was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Hendricks was a loving and devoted family man and a gracious gentleman to all he met.

He is survived by his son Terry Evan Hendricks of Creston; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
