Ashe County’s softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning to score a 6-4 victory at Alleghany last Friday.

The Lady Huskies jumped in front 2-0 after the third inning, but Alleghany recaptured the lead in the fourth when Emily Osborne drove in a pair of runs to cap off a three-run inning. Trailing 3-2 entering the sixth, Ashe scored two to take a 4-3 lead.

Alleghany answered back with an RBI from Casey Hamm to tie things up at 4-4.

Ashe scored two in the seventh and Brianna McCoy pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to hold on for her second victory of the season.

McCoy pitched a complete game and allowed four runs with only one of them earned on four hits with four walks.

Madison Gentry started for the Trojans and also pitched all seven innings and gave up six runs on 12 hits.

Hannah Blevins led Ashe’s offensive attack with three hits and three runs knocked in. McCoy was 2-4 at the plate with a run scored, Sloan Elliott reached base three times and scored a run while Mackenzie Shatley had two hits and an RBI.

On Tuesday, Ashe traveled to Elkin to take on the Lady Elks. Elkin held Ashe scoreless through seven innings, beating the Lady Huskies 5-0.

Ashe now sits at 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. The team will play its first home game this Friday against North Wilkes, weather permitting.
