Joyce Minell Perkins

Joyce Minell Perkins of Marion, Va., passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was 79.

She was born in Grayson County, Va., to the late Royce Greer and Virgie Stamper Greer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Perkins; a brother, Billy Joe Greer; and a sister, Maxie Walls. She grew up in Whitetop, Va., and attended the Konnarock Girls School.

Joyce and her husband raised their family in Fairfax County, Va., where Al was a Fairfax County policeman. They moved back to Marion, Va., in 2004 to enjoy the “good life.”

Joyce loved to try out new recipes, hang out with her siblings, and go shopping with her cousin, Kathleen Powers. Her price and joy was her two granddaughters, Niki and Karyn, and her great granddaughter, Sammie.

She is survived by her children, Alta Jones of Hillsboro, Va., and Rick Perkins of Stafford, Va.; grandchildren, Nicole DePhillips of Clive, Iowa and Karyn Jones of Des Moines, Iowa; great grandchild, Samantha DePhillips of Clive, Iowa; sisters, Wadie Main, Ann Miller, Sharon Richardson, Colleen Sullins, Texie Church; brother, Spencer (Bud) Greer; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Faith Luthern Church in Whitetop, Va., with Pastor Buddy Beaver officiating. Interment will follow in the Cabin Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church.
