Mrs. Betty Jean Sexton Roland of West Jefferson passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2012, at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Roland was born in Grayson County, Va., on Thursday, Sept. 5, 1929, to the late Howard Roscoe and Novella Sexton.
She retired from First Union Bank after 20 years of service. Betty was a member of the West Jefferson Methodist Church, where she did the church flowers for years.
She loved her family, her church family and her banking family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by two sons, Morris Roland of Winston-Salem and Kevin Roland and wife, Tammy, of West Jefferson; a brother, Doug Sexton and wife, Mary of Binghamton, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at West Jefferson Methodist Church with Rev. Pete Taylor, Rev. A.B. Weaver, and Speaker David VanHoy officiating.
